East Belfast Wins Lottery Millions

East Belfast communities are celebrating their success as Connswater Community Greenway secures a £23m grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme. The project is one of three successful projects in the UK and the only project in Northern Ireland to be awarded Living Landmarks funding.

A groundbreaking Northern Ireland project has been awarded £23.5 million under the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme to transform an area of East Belfast.

The East Belfast Partnership’s Connswater Community Greenway has secured £23.5million to create a linear parkway following the course of the Connswater and other rivers through east Belfast.

East Belfast Shortlisted for Lottery Millions

The Connswater Community Greenway is still in the running to receive a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks programme.  

The Connswater Community Greenway is a vast project connecting 379 acres of public open space, building 43 bridges and 19kms of cycle and walkways. It will provide immediate benefits to an estimated 40,835 people living adjacent to the greenway, improving the living environment and providing opportunities for leisure, exercise, recreation and supporting healthier lifestyles.

Minister Ritchie, Lord Mayor Jim Rodgers and Duke Special were amongst the guests at the Stormont breakfast.
