Donna Dives in for Connswater Duck Derby

TV presenter and MS Society Patron, Donna Traynor today helped launch what is thought to be East Belfast’s first ever Duck Derby which will be held at 1pm on Saturday 28th April at Connswater Shopping Centre.

Connswater has teamed up with The Connswater Community Greenway and the MS Society to host the quirky – and quacky – event, which will see 5,000 ducks race along the Connswater River.  Ducks are on sale for £2 in Connswater Shopping Centre and through local schools, with all proceeds going to the MS Society.

Gerry Monaghan, Centre Manager at Connswater, said: “We are very excited to be hosting such a unique and fun event for the community and two very important causes.  We have had great support from the local schools and we have no doubt that the event will be a great success.”

The event has been organised to raise awareness of the Connswater Community Greenway project which aims to help clean up the Connswater River in East Belfast and create a 10km linear park through East Belfast, which will follow the course of the rivers.

Sammy Douglas, Project Champion, said ‘We want to highlight the great potential of the Connswater River. Through the Connswater Community Greenway we have an amazing opportunity to transform East Belfast and we would urge people to come along and support us at the Connswater Duck Derby.”

There will also be a number of family activities and entertainment going on from 12 pm until 3pm, including river themed fancy dress.
