Phase Two of the construction of the Connswater Community Greenway continues to make great progress across all sites including the Holywood Arches, Avoniel Park and Ladas Way…

Phase Two of the construction of the Connswater Community Greenway continues to make great progress across all sites.

At the Holywood Arches Library paving works are complete and the concrete has been poured in preparation for the aggregate path which will be poured in the next few weeks. At the C.S. Lewis Square up to 300 native trees continue to be cared for which includes them being top soiled and watered. Each tree gets watered for 30 minutes and in total it takes two days to water all of the trees planted in this section.


Flood alleviation work is also progressing well with all piling work now complete at the Connswater Link Bridge to the Newtownards Road bridge. This section has also been fitted with rebar while concreting works are ongoing.

At Avoniel Park and The Hollow, path preparation works have taken place which will soon be followed by the pouring of the path. Drainage work is complete on the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) pitch which has been fitted with steel beams for the outside fencing and the pitch has been tarred. At Dixon playing fields a large stretch of path has been poured with only a small section remaining.  

Works are also progressing well on the Beersbridge Road with one side of the road now complete. There has also been cable works to prepare for a new pedestrian crossing which will be fitted in the next coming months.

At Ladas Way the flood walls are complete and the reinstatement works to gardens has now begun. Drainage work continues at the play park with markers now installed to outline the play equipment.

River mitigation work has commenced at Montgomery Road Industrial Estate. This consists of stone work in the bed of the river which will help to preserve the river bed for many years to come. Flood defence work is also making excellent progress adjacent to the Royal British Legion which includes the construction of base and flood walls in order for the river to flow through this channel.


Lastly, on the Cregagh Road, kerbing and paving work continue to make progress with one side of the road now complete.

***Update on path / road closures ***

-       The Cregagh Road has partial lane closures with off peak traffic lights from 9:30am – 3.30pm.

-       Off-peak lane closures are taking place on the Newtownards Road.

-       A contraflow is in place on the Beersbridge Road.

-       Traffic Management is in place at Poundland Car Park.
