Construction of the Greenway continues with significant changes

Over the last few weeks the project has made considerable progress with the opening of the C.S. Lewis Square on Tuesday 22nd November.  The last of the remaining art was installed and remainder of the trees planted just in time for the opening.

Only two sections of flood wall work remain; two flood walls to be poured at Ladas Drive and at the retail park at Connswater. The rest of the flood walls are in place and work on the hand rails from Severn Street to Sydenham is progressing well at this stage.

With space for 2000 people it’s the first of its kind in the East with a dedicated public space for events and activities.  Both BBC Newsline and UTV were there interviewing sculptor Maurice Harron, Project Manager Wendy Langham and Guest of Honour Douglas Gresham.

The square, which is currently being built at the intersection of the Connswater and Comber Greenways, will be one of Belfast’s most exciting public spaces, with capacity for around 2,000 people at events and celebrations - helping to revitalise inner East Belfast and also marking the life and work of one of the city’s most celebrated writers.

Don't hibernate this winter, get walking!

Struggling to get outdoors now the clocks have turned back and we naturally want to hibernate?

Connswater Community Greenway in partnership with Outdoor Recreation NI are launching a walking group starting on Wednesday 8th November beginning at 2pm.

It doesn’t matter what your fitness levels are and you don’t need any fancy equipment, just throw on a pair of comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water.

Locals attend opening of a new section of the Greenway

Hundreds of locals flocked to a new section of the Connswater Community Greenway this weekend to celebrate the opening.  The new section, which connects the Beersbridge Road to Grand Parade, includes the ‘green heart’ of the Connswater Community Greenway – The Hollow. A meeting point for Knock, Loop and Connswater Rivers and  the location of the historic 17th Century Conn O’Neill bridge, The Hollow is best known for the reference made to it in the song ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by East Belfast musician Van Morrison.
